ESAB SuperStir™ installed at Sapa in Sweden. This Friction Stir™ welding machine is making large panels and heavy profiles with a welding length of up to 14.5 metres for ships etc. The machine has three welding heads, which allows welding from two sides of the panel at the same time, or for two welding heads to be used. The heads both positioned on the same side of the panel and starting at the centre of the workpiece weld in opposite directions from each other.
